Carers ‘In Case of Emergency’ – Herts County Council

Posted on January 9th, 2024

In Hertfordshire, residents who provide care for a family member, friend or neighbour can get help preparing for emergency situations with Hertfordshire County Council’s ‘in case of emergency’ plans.

‘In case of emergency’ plans allow carers to record useful information on what they would like to happen if an emergency occurred requiring someone else to step in and help provide care.

Information that can be captured includes:

• Emergency contacts
• Where relevant medication is kept
• What the communication needs are for the person requiring care
• If they are able to remain safely at home on their own.

Once this information has been received by the county council, carers receive an ‘I am a Carer’ card and key fob, with contact information for a 24-hour hotline. In the event of an emergency, anyone who has access to the card/fob can contact the county council, who will put the plan in place to make sure the person who needs care gets the support they need.

Carers can complete an ‘in case of emergency’ plan on the Hertfordshire County Council HERE, or call 0300 1234042 for assistance on completing the form.
