Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) – Vaccination Information

Posted on August 9th, 2024

Did you know that RSV can pose serious health risks, especially for older adults and pregnant women?

From 1st September 2024 there will be two new RSV vaccination programmes, during pregnancy for infant protection and for older adults.

For older adults, RSV can lead to severe respiratory illnesses like pneumonia or bronchitis, especially if you have underlying health conditions. For pregnant women, the vaccine not only safeguards your health but also helps protect your baby from RSV after birth.

RSV vaccinations are not seasonal and will continue all year round.

Eligibility:

  • Pregnant women 28w-36w (to be offered each pregnancy).
  • Patients aged 75-79 after or on 1st September 2024 (one dose only).
  • Patients who turn 80 after or on 2nd September 2024 –will be eligible for a vaccine up to and including 31st August 2025.

Planned clinics:

  • We are planning clinics over the coming months. The practice is using self-book links to invite eligible patients. This means that patients who meet the criteria for vaccination will receive a SMS message inviting them to book an appointment online.

Patients who do not have a mobile number associated with their record, or those who do not wish to receive SMS messages from the practice, will receive a letter in due course.

Should you need to contact us via telephone regarding your vaccination we ask that you please try and call in the afternoon.

Thank you!
